Dental Bonding
What is bonding?
Bonding is a painless way to make minor repairs to the teeth. Bonding is made up of strong tooth-coloured material that is able to chemically bond with the teeth, called composite resin. Composite resin makes the teeth strong and durable. The composite resin can be shaped like the missing part of a chipped tooth or shaped like your broken tooth to restore it to size. Composite resin can also be used to fill the gap between teeth. Composite resin is put on the tooth. Then it is shaped and hardened with UV light.
How Do I Care for My Teeth After Bonding?
The bonding materials are durable, they still can be chipped and may need periodical replacement. Bonded teeth may be chipped with excess pressure of chewing ice or raw carrots, biting fingernails and hard candy. They may be stained from coffee, tea, red wine and berries.
Are teeth bonding permanent?
Teeth bonding is not a permanent treatment. It needs to be replaced every 5 to 10 years. It can last for more than 10 years if good care is taken of the bonds and natural teeth after the teeth bonding treatment is completed.
